What Is Amazon PPC Dayparting?

Dayparting, also known as ad scheduling, is the practice of running your Amazon PPC ads during specific hours or days when shoppers are most active and likely to convert. Instead of letting your ads run continuously and potentially wasting budget during off-peak hours, dayparting allows you to optimize ad spend based on historical performance data.

Think of it like operating a store: you wouldn’t keep the doors open 24/7 if customers only shop between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Similarly, dayparting allows you to shift a larger portion of your ad budget and bids to those prime hours. Conversely, you might pause or lower bids during times when conversion rates drop, thus improving the efficiency of your ad spend.

Why Dayparting is Important for Amazon PPC Campaigns

  1. Maximizes Ad Spend Efficiency
Running ads during peak hours ensures that every dollar spent reaches shoppers with the highest buying intent.

  2. Improves Conversion Rates
By targeting high-traffic time slots, you can increase the likelihood of conversions without overspending during off-peak hours.

  3. Reduces Wasted Budget
Ads running during low-conversion periods often burn through budgets without driving sales. Dayparting prevents this waste.

  4. Enhances ROI
By focusing resources on the most profitable hours, dayparting can significantly boost your return on investment (ROI).

Strategies for Amazon PPC Dayparting

Now that you know what dayparting is and why it is important, let’s go over some strategies for implementing it effectively.

1. Data Analysis

The first step in implementing dayparting for Amazon PPC is to analyze historical data to identify patterns in customer behavior. Sellers should examine metrics such as:

  • Traffic volume

  • Conversion rates

  • Sales performance

Break down these metrics by hour of the day and days of the week to spot trends and uncover insights about when customers are most likely to shop and purchase.

2. Identify Peak Hours

Based on the data analysis, pinpoint the peak hours when your target audience is most active. These are time slots where ad visibility is most likely to translate into higher engagement and conversions.

For example:

  • If your product targets working professionals, evenings may see higher conversions.

  • For parents, mid-morning or afternoon hours might be ideal.

3. Adjust Campaign Settings

Once you’ve identified peak hours, adjust your campaign settings accordingly within Amazon’s Advertising platform. This involves:

  • Increasing bids during peak hours to secure higher ad placements.

  • Pausing campaigns or reducing bids during low-conversion times.

4. Monitor and Optimize

Dayparting isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it strategy. Continuous monitoring of campaign performance is essential. Regularly review metrics such as ACoS, CTR, and conversion rates to fine-tune your ad schedule and adjust for changes in customer behavior.

How to Set Up Dayparting in Astra

Astra makes implementing dayparting easy and efficient, giving you two methods to set up dayparting strategies. Once you have signed into your Astra account:

1. Through the Hourly Stats Report (Recommended)

The Hourly Stats report provides in-depth data, making it the preferred way to set up dayparting:

  • Access the Hourly Stats in the Insights tab.

  • Select your strategy from the dropdown menu.

  • View the ACoS breakdown by hour to identify peak and low-performing hours.

  • Click and hover over the time range you want to pause.

  • Confirm your selection in the dialogue box.

  • Click 'Save' to apply the changes.

You will find the hourly stats where you can select the concerned strategy from the dropdown filter and see the ACOS observed at different hours of the day as depicted.

Scrolling down, you will notice the ACOS breakdown in each hour of the day. Where you can select the time range you want to pause the strategy. To select, you need to click and hover over the time range as depicted below.

A dialogue box will appear to confirm your decision. Here also you will find the past values of Ad Sales, Spending, Observed ACOS, and Target ACOS in the same time frame for the selected period (date range) for the estimation. You will have to click on 'Save' and you are done.

2. Through Strategy's Advanced Settings

  • Go to your strategy page.

  • Find the dayparting feature in the advanced settings.

  • Select the time range to pause the strategy.

  • Review past performance data to estimate potential savings.

This approach is ideal for quickly pausing campaigns based on known low-performing hours.

Pro Tip: Use this feature cautiously. Pausing ads during certain hours may impact Amazon’s algorithmic ranking, so monitor your performance closely after implementing dayparting.

Dayparting Best Practices

To make the most of dayparting, follow these best practices:

  1. Base Decisions on Data: Use historical insights to avoid guesswork. Astra’s Hourly Stats report helps you pinpoint key time slots.

  2. Start Small and Scale: Test changes on a single campaign before applying them across your portfolio.

  3. Account for Time Zones: Optimize your campaigns for the specific regions where your audience shops.

  4. Combine with Bid Automation: Use Astra’s bid optimization tools alongside dayparting for maximum efficiency.

  5. Review Regularly: Customer shopping habits change. Revisit your dayparting strategy periodically to stay ahead of trends.
